A Pet Expo is a fun event for all pet owners to attend and see new products, gather new resources, and learn about new things that are available in their community to enhance their lives and the lives of the family pets that live with them. On Feb 2, 2013 a one-day Expo was held at the long beach Convention center and featured a lot more than 150 vendors of products and services geared towards pets. We saw mostly dogs, there were a few kitties, birds, snakes, and even an Iguana named Sarah! In addition, there were interactive events: a talent contest and a costume Contest, an enjoyment stage with guest speakers, television stars, seminars on pet safety and first aid, obedience and agility demonstrations, complimentary nail trims, affordable vaccinations and much more. here I am coming to the Convention center and getting ready to go inside:
Of course, as the Pombassador of southern California Pomeranian Rescue, I always take the opportunity to bark about the rescue and about my 2013 Bella Pomeranian calendar which is a fundraiser for us and is available on Ebay, the rescue facebook page and Blog:
The Rescue community was represented at the Pet Expo as well, and had several of their adoptable cats and dogs there with them. A Pet Expo is a great opportunity for Rescues to let the public know that they exist; even if you might not be in a position to adopt a pet at the moment, you might want to consider volunteerism and fostering. My furrends Marc and Nancy, also SCPR Volunteers, joined my posse at the Pet Expo:
We thoroughly took pleasure in the Disc pet dog Demonstration, the talent Show, and the costume Contest–more about that later–and we got to meet Shorty Rossi, star of Pit boss on animal Planet. Besides being short, Shorty and I also share a love of Rescue, and we got our picture taken with him:
We also did a little shopping at some of the booths that had products for sale. We found California pet dog and their terrific collection of relaxing doggy wear, pillows and beds. I tried on a few things and made a decision on this cuddly pair of PJs:
My furrend Emma Zen of the Emma Zen foundation had her booth there. For those of you who remember me barking in a past blog about Emma’s work, Emma raises funds to equip first responders and emergency teams with specially sized oxygen masks created for pets. here I am giving a demo of an oxygen mask that is sized just ideal to fit over my muzzle to deliver life-saving oxygen:
And now for the most fun part of all!! mommy and I wanted to be in the costume Contest. We were a matched pair: thing 1 and thing 2, the blue-haired Nimbus from Dr. Seuss’s The cat In The Hat. I am sorry the pictures are not better but hopefully I will be able to add the ones taken by a photographer at the event. here I am as thing 1:
We actually won 3rd place and came away with lots of neat prizes! here mommy and I are taking a little break before our drive back home:
If you ever get a chance to go to a Pet Expo, you must go because they are fun, informative, and entertaining. get hold of the program as you walk in, and take a minute to preview the Exhibitor list to highlight the things that are crucial to you. then after you have seen them, go back through and spend time checking out the rest. set aside time to see the demonstrations and hear the guest speakers on stage. I want to thank amazing Pet Expos for a great event and you can link to their site to see the event schedule through the end of 2014.
Love,
Bella
